Danke, ich habe es vermutet,habe aber Problem es zu glauben, daß man Sonnenbräune als Wahlargument verwenden kann.

Es geht wohl eher darum, dass er sich nicht verändert hat. In den 80ern war Sonnenbank-Orange chic, und er steht fest zu den Werten von damals :)

(Später ist in dem Text auch von seinem 'tangerine hue' die Rede, es geht also ganz eindeutig um die Hautfarbe)

McCain is, if I recall correctly, a melanoma survivor, from the days when he was a prisoner of war (in Japan, or Korea?) and was, in addition to being tortured, held outdoors in the sun for long periods and seriously sunburned. So joking about his skin color really isn't funny.

I know nothing about Boehner's personal history and don't want to, but his tan is really ghastly: as unvarying and as surreal as his rigidly conservative political stance. Anyone who doesn't work outdoors, but who nevertheless cultivates an exaggerated, unrealistic tan as his only distinctive personal quality, is going to look pretty unintelligent. To me that's one valid factor to take into account in voting, among others.

Well... hm -- us. What are the grass roots, tea bagging (or not) Republicans ought to do? Go easy or hit a tanning salon?
