Wie kann man das wohl am besten übersetzen?

    Herzlichen Dank.

    Ist es ein geflochtener Zopf?

Dann vielleicht: She had her hair in a braid.

I'm looking for the action itself.

She had tied her hair back - does that sound right?

Ich versuche auszudrücken, dass sie das getan hat, nicht dass es schon so ist. Also die Tat in Vergangenheitsform.

    Danke

OP: Sie hatte sich ihre Haare zu einem Zopf gebunden.

Also suchst Du etwas anderes als im OP angegeben? Ich veerstehe das überhaupt nicht - bitte deutschen Satz reinstellen.

    She was tying her hair???

She had tied her hair back = it's already like that, she did it before you see her.

She tied/pulled her hair back (into a ponytail) = past tense of the actual action.

She plaited / braided her hair.
    She made a plait / a braid.

    Lara Chu,

Does that mean the sentence is correct as it stands? (She had tied her hair back) - in terms of gramma? Thanks.

Wurde doch schon gesagt, dass das richtig ist, ABER wenn du nach "the action itself" suchst, dann eher "she tied her hair back"...sonst heißt es halt, dass sie ihre Haare zurückgebunden hatte.

@13: I'm assuming Lav's concern was with the difference between She had tied her hair back and She had her hair tied back.

The first one it's clear that she's the one who did the tying, the second one is simply a description of how her hair looks now.
