    Hier wird in vulgärer Weise auf die Redewendung Der frühe Vogel fängt den Wurm* angespielt. Diese Aussage ist sehr wahrscheinlich jemanden zuzuschreiben, der kein begeisterter Frühaufsteher ist. Und genau diese Haltung bringt diese Verballhornung zum Ausdruck!

    Ich habe mich mal an einer Übersetzung versucht und habe dabei etwas ungeschickt Folgendes zu Papier gebracht (bitte ergänzen/korrigieren):

    "The early bird can jump in the lake!"
    "The early bird can bugger off!"
    "Screw the early bird...!"
    "I don't give a damn/f***/shit about the early bird!"

    Bzgl. der letzten beiden Vorschläge ist zu beklagen, dass die jeweiligen Sätze - anders als im Deutschen - nicht mit dem frühen Vogel eingeleitet werden. Das tilgt den Wortspieleffekt, und ist somit für eine brauchbare Übersetzung nicht zu favorisieren.

    *) An dieser Stelle sei noch einmal darauf hingewiesen, dass es sich bei dieser Redewendung nicht - wie oft fälschlicherweise angenommen wird - um eine deutsche Originalfassung, sondern um einen Übertragung des englischen Sprichwortes "The early bird catches the worm" handelt. Das deutsche pendant hierzu wäre etwa die Redewendung Morgenstund hat Gold im Mund.

    @ Cro-Mignon: gar nicht schlecht, Dein Vorschlag... überhaupt nicht. Gefällt mir!

    Er ist vielleicht nicht ganz so ausdrucksstark, wie die anderen Vorschläge, durch die Verwendung des Verbes fangen/catch legt er sich aber sehr viel dichter an die Originalvorlage, und das ist ebenfalls ein sehr guter und kreativer, wortspielerischer Effekt

    ...wobei der Wurm - wie ich jetzt erst sehe - wohl doch eher der frühe Vogel sein sollte! Also:

    The early bird catches a cold!

    Oder war es in Deinem Vorschlag (Cro-Mignon) beabsichtigt, dass sich nicht der frühe Vogel, sondern seine vermeintliche Beute (der Wurm) einen Schnupfen einfängt...!?

    Kehrt zwar die eigentlich intendierte Aussage (Warum früh aufstehen?) ins Gegenteil um, aber das Wortspiel mit late finde ich ganz nett.

    Kann man late 'verstorben' auch prädikativ verwenden? Dann besser
    ?Early birds make worms late.

    @3 und 5: Das sollte natürlich heißen

    Durch bedrohlich niedrigen Koffeinspiegel bedingter partieller Blackout (greyout?).

    So fällt mir denn auch gerade ein, dass ich vor einigen Jahren einmal Folgendes gewortwitzt habe:

    Der frohe Flügel wurmt den Fang!

    Ich weiß, das ist völliger Mumpitz, aber ich fand's recht lustig. Übrigens: "Mit Mumpitz war ab dem 17. Jahrhundert eine [...] Vogelscheuche gemeint" (Quelle: Wikipedia), also des frühes Wurmes Freund, sozusagen...

    If you want BE and want to retain the allusion and the paraprosdokian quality, I would tend toward "The early bird can go to hell."

    An alle, die mich im Laufe der letzten Kommentare vermisst haben (insbesondere @MikeE, der sich in #47 persönlich an mich wendet):

    Es freut mich, dass dieser Thread soviel Zuspruch gefunden hat - auf dass auch viele andere einen Nutzen daraus ziehen mögen! In diesem Sinne danke ich Euch allen!

    Was den Zweck, bzw. Zusammenhang der Übersetzung betrifft, so kann ich nur sagen: es gibt da expliziten keinen. Ein dänischsprachiger Freund (und begeisterter Langschläfer) veröffentlichte einmal über sein Skype-Profil das deutschsprachige Wortspiel "Der frühe Vogel kann mich mal...", das er irgendwo aufgeschnappt hatte. Er wusste aber nicht genau, was es bedeutete. Er kennt zwar das engliche Original ("Early bird catched the worm"), kannte aber auch das deutsche Pendant nicht ("Der frühe Vogel fängt den Wurm"), auf das die Parodie anspielt.

    Weiter so...!
