They may or may not apply, but are somewhat close to the meaning, in my humble opinion.

Akwabe, what is your objection to "Amerikanisch"? American English can be quite different from British, especially when it comes to idioms.

@the kat: that's actually the point! I am studying at an American college, thus it's important that I'm not using British idioms and words (like "trousers").
