Stich des Gewissens? Gewissenbiss? Innere Reue?

findet sich auch in James Joyce's Ulysses, habe aber den genauen Kontext nicht.

    agenbite, n.
mod. rendering of ayenbite n. (= remorse), used after Joyce as a conscious archaism. See note at inwit n. 1, 2.
1922 J. Joyce Ulysses i. 16 They wash and tub and scrub. Agenbite of inwit. Conscience.
1952 D. Thomas Let. 6 Nov. in Sel. Lett. (1966) 380 ‘Put it off, put it off,’ ‘It's too late now.’‥ These agenbite-deadeners did their long-night worst, but the little voice in the dark, oh, throb, throb it went across Kansas.
1972 Times 17 Apr. 14 Muggeridge is haunted‥by plastic grass, the possibility that dawn will be photographed as though it were dusk. What agenbite of inwit must seize the old gentleman as they lard him with make-up prior to committing him to the arms of his camera.

...Conscience; inward sense of right and wrong. Also clean inwit = ‘a clean heart’....

dann liege ich mit "Gewissensbisse" gar nicht so verkehrt, oder?

Klingt nur leider nicht so schön archaisch.
