I just looked it up in Leo (at hh's suggestion), but I have never heard "crispbread". Where I grew up, we called it "Wasa bread". (likely Wasa was the only brand?)

Well, it's called crispbread in NZ, and in Australia too, I believe. (I recall reading an Australian magazine article on the impossibility of eating a crispbread sandwich whilst maintaining an appearance of decorum and refined table etiquette...)

@Mary: Zumindest vor einigen Jahren war "crispbread" in Australien auch der gängige Begriff.

Wasa is one brand of flatbread. Crispbread is OK, too, but my natively bilingual American English/Swedish friends call it flatbread in English.

Flat bread is getting used around here (US) more and more for pita. I'd stick with crispbread.

I have found this ancient thread. Does anyone know Ryevita or Ry Vita in this context?

Growing up in a Scandinavian town in the US - we used to eat flatbread (the very thin Norwegian crisps) - and rye crisps - the thicker Swedish, rye-based crisps. (see Flatbrod and crisp bread in the link below)

This site shows several different names and differentiates among various different flatbreads from various countries of origin:

    Here's the website for RyeVita:

Achtung, Ryvita ohne "e", also nicht "Ryevita".
Kommt auf die Zielgruppe der Übersetzung an, wenns Engländer sind, würd ich sagen "Ryvita bread" wäre die beste Lösung.

Ryvita was the common name for crispbread in England in the 50s - so well known that the brand name was used for the substance. Cf 'hoover'
