there seems to be variants of this "Hase" saying; "Wie der Hase läuft" is "know which way the wind blows / the cat jumps" e.g.

also with "wo" and "lang" ?

„...weiß, wo der Hase lang läuft“ ist übrigens böse verballhornt. Üblich und metrisch besser ist „.. weiß, wie der Hase läuft“.

genau, denn in dem Sprichwort geht es ja um den Zick-Zack-Kurs und was man tun muss, um sich nicht erwischen zu lassen bzw. etwas zu erreichen
