    @ Carly
I had the same feeling, but then I double-checked on LEO...

Anyway, ...leaved might have been the original version and ...leaf is possibly what remained due to 'Mundfaulheit'...

@Daddy - Not sure about the "Mundfaulheit" aspect, but just know that that is what we (family, friends, relatives) have always called them.

I'll ask my wife about it, but she's gone to bed already and so will I.

    See you next time!

Shamrock is the irish national emblem - vierblättriger Klee halt!

Let me pick the subject up again as I promised last night

First of all, my wife, an 'English Rose' and a teacher of proffession, tells me, that it is 'Four Leaf'.

    @ NJ

Your statement "Shamrock is the irish national emblem" is correct

Your conclusion "vierblättriger Klee halt" is simply wrong

Anni hit the point and therefore:

Aan Irish Clover Leaf has, by definition(!) 3 leaves (as plural from leaf)

Shamrock, botanically speaking, is nowhere near the type of clover used as 'Futterpflanze'.
An area in Europe, explititly known for this is die 'Berner Kleewirtschaft' in and around Bern/Switzerland...
