| Comment | The wiki article is misleading. If this is an ingredient in a recipe, they mean the canned product, which is definitely not a bound soup -- the, #2 is wrong. (Canned creamed corn can be made into a bound soup easily, though, through the addition of some other liquid and a thickener.)
Canned cream corn, which would be the ingredient in a recipe, is pretty much just corn that has been chopped up finely (pureed). It's not available that I know of in Germany, but when I've wanted to make a corn soup, I've just taken a can of sweet corn and pureed it (along with the small amount of liquid in the can) with my Stabmixer. The end product is similar to creamed corn, but may be a bit drier than the real stuff.
Yes, WernR, corn soup can be very tastey! My German husband has made a Mexican version of it several times. We used to have "scalloped corn" at family reunions ages ago, which I loved, too.
I'd guess that the Lexington meant here is Lexington, Kentucky, but I can't be sure. The German/European habit of omitting the name of the state when talking about a city in the US leads to confusion, since the same name can appear in multiple states. Unless you're talking about a major city, you always need to include the state. |
