Sagt man nicht einfach "to post a letter" oder "to send a letter"?

Oder muß es wortwörtlich übersetzt werden?

einen Brief zur Post bringen
to take a letter to the post office



einen Brief in die Post geben
to put a letter in the mail
to mail a letter

Hallo. Ich wollte jemandem schreiben, dass ich den Brief heute noch zur Post hinbringe.

I'm going to take the letter to the post office (still) today.

I am going to post the letter today.

whichever you prefer

In case it matters, "to post" is BE, "to mail" is AmE, "to send" is universal (as far as I know!)
