Um den 6-gear mal etwas einzuschränken: Habe "stirrup holder" tatsächlich bei Google in einem (einzigen) politischen Text gefunden, der allerdings die Übersetzung eines dt. Textes von Joachim C. Fest ist. Würde mich daher sehr wundern, wenn das in diesem metaphorischen Kontext ein zulässiger Terminus wäre.

Ich glaube, im englischen gibt es nicht so einen "eleganten" ausdruck dafür.

hasenkind: deine obige übersetzung ohne TO war schon i.O! ich hab nur die infinitivform angegeben. In deinem Satz fällt das TO weg, weil du "for helping" benutzt hast.

Literally this means stirrup holder, but while this is used as a metaphor in German it is not, to the best of my awareness, so used in English. So you need to find a metaphor that is used. Here it would be "stepping-stone".

This word comes up in the lyrics to the new song by Söhne Mannheims and Xavier Naidoo. Is it particularly associated with the Nazis, as the OP and the reference to Fest in #3 suggest?
