    Everybody can very well understand a literal translation. I'd like to find an idiomatic expression. However, it may be all too German a concept to have an English equivalent

    Common expression in the US: as long as you live under my roof, you'll do as I say. As long as you live under MY roof......
    And I don't care how old you are, as long as you're under my roof you're gonna live by my rules.

    I don't know how many times I heard this growing up. ;-)

    This is the closest I can come, and is fairly common in American usage (at least by my parents)....
