Zu Deiner eigentlichen Frage kann ich jedoch leider nichts beisteuern; Dein Vorschlag 'projecting sign' klingt nicht abwegig, ob er aber idiomatisch ist, vermag ich nicht zu beurteilen.

'Protruding sign' might be another option, like 'a sign that sticks out from the wall' (which is probably what you would say in conversation) but more formal. It too is a little negative, suggesting that the sign extends beyond its own space, but in advertising that might be a good thing.

If all else fails there's always 'mounted perpendicular to the wall,' as opposed to 'flat mounted,' though people might have to stop for a split second to think what it meant.

In contrast to a "fascia sign."

"Projecting sign" hat eindeutig die meisten Hits in der Google-Bildersuche.

Fahnenschild oder Wandausleger sind m.E. die gängigeren dt. Bezeichnungen.

"Ausstecker" lese ich hier auch zum ersten Mal ...
