Just to clarify: "Unpech" is not a German word, it has obviously been made up as a kind of pun playing on the popular idiom "Glück im Unglück" which means "it could have come worse".

How about using the standard proverbs:

a blessing in disguise, a curse that turns out to be a blessing

Stella: The problem with that is that it *isn't* a standard proverb, though, but a pun (the meaning of which is not entirely clear, at least to me). Therefore something similar would have to be done with an English proverb - "a blessing undisguised", or somesuch. Not sure how accurate a translation that would be, though.

Ja, wenn vom Fragestellenden die obige Quelle genannt worden wäre, hätte das viel Kopfzerbrechen erspart ;-). Ganz am Schluss des Artikels (nachdem alles nicht so nach Plan lief und den Unmut des Schreibenden erregte), sagt er: "Wir stoßen auf das Glück im Unglück an." Darauf ist das Wortspiel gemünzt. Und natürlich muss es IM Unpech, nicht In U. heißen - sonst wäre es ja ein Ortsname.
