I would be more inclined to opt for 'Abstand nehmen von...bzw. sich von.... distanzieren'. But this is my 'Stegreifübersetzung' at first (cursory) glance, could be incorrect.... will let the DE-NS have the last say here :o)

The movie is not quite as entertaining as The Little Mermaid or Beauty and the Beast, but it's nice for once to see the Disney studio steering clear of the white-bread xenophobia typified by Aladdin and seeking to enlarge its stylistic palette as well as its thematic address.

Alternativ: "...daß sich das Disney Studion freimacht von spießigen Fremdenklischees..." - Unterschied heute (Lion King) und früher (Aladin)

das 'sucht' am Ende von Context/examples bitte streichen.
