@Werner: I posted this in "Englisch gesucht" because I'm looking for the English translation of this phrase. It's a German phrase and I want to know what it means in English. To me it's a translation issue. I don't understand why you think this is not the right forum for a question like this.

@eric: I don't think there is a single exact equivalent of "Hallo Zusammen". You can safely ignore the comments of Werner and lingo wizard, as they are evidently not pertinent to your question. The way I see it is that, being American, you might well come out with some expression such as "Hi y'all" which would never pass my lips, as I speak very English English. Personally, I might greet a group of friends or acquaintances with "Hello, everyone" or start an email to a group or a letter to a family with "Dear all". All of these things are covered by "Hallo zusammen".

I suppose it depends on your objective here. If you are seeking merely to understand the phrase, then I think you have enough material in this thread to meet your needs. On the other hand, if you are looking for a general purpose translation, I don't think that one is possible. Finally, if you are looking to translate "Hallo zusammen" in a particular context into its nearest English equivalent, I have to say that, given what is here and your own native knowledge of English, you should surely be able to work something out for yourself.

Hi, eric! - When I looked at your query and the context you gave, I had the very same impression as Werner had, especially since you backed your Context/Examples by a link to a thread dealing with 'This' versa 'That', an odd or at least most unusual way . . .

I had no problem understanding the question -- I think this possibly has something to do with the fact that you not only posted the phrase to be translated under the box where the phrase to be translated should come, the source in the box for the source, and the context/example in the box marked "Kontext/Beispiele", but also then suggested "Hello, everyone" as a possible translation...
