| Comment | Although, I may just have to eat my words here: there I was early this morning, riding into my office, with half-frozen ears listening to NPR, when, lo and behold, White House Correspondent Steve Horsley greeted NPR's Morning Edition host with these very words: 'Happy New Year's Eve, Steve." I just about fell off my bike, but fortunately I was already frozen stiff at that point and couldn't help but keep going down the freeway.
Anyway, it struck me as a sort of anomaly and something rarely heard around these parts, and even if you do hear it, it only makes sense on this very day, and only during the hours before New Year's Eve actually begins. You obviously wouldn't say it on the 30th of December or before. |
