Ich kenne keine gute Redewendung dafür, aber die anderen Nutzer haben ein paar gute Vorschläge gemacht.

Die Kunst des Spottes heißt natürlich, in einem verschiedenen Ton von dem, was echt gemeint ist, zu sprechen.

Deswegen würde ich etwas sagen, was am Anfang klingen würde, als ob es hilfreich wäre. Zum Beispiel...

"If you don't know the answer, here's an idea: shut your damn mouth!"

"Put up or shut up" a common informal american phrase, said with the correct tone can literally burn the ears of its intended target...

KellySue, ich kann damit nicht übereinstimmen. Wenn man das sagt, macht man eine Herausforderung.

"If I try hard enough, then I could easily do it better."

"Then put up, or shut up!"

Or there is always the great quote from Mark Twain:
“It is better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.”

"Put up or shut up" definitely implies that the "Dummschwätzer" take action, as you pointed out. It's not so fitting, but a biting way to get someone to keep their trap shut!

Did you see the Dieter Nuhr Review of 2006 show? Great stuff! I can't wait for the televised Mainzer Fassenachtsitzung in a few weeks. I'm able to understand more each year... the more sarcasm the better!

Man könnte das natürlich noch auf eine vornehmere Ebene heben, indem man im Tonfall einer englischen Lordschaft näselt:

"If you are not endowed with the requisite measure of insight, a protracted period of silence on your part would not now be unwelcome!"

"If you are not endowed with the requisite measure of insight, a protracted period of silence on your part would not now be unwelcome" ist genau das, was eine "englische Lordschaft" NICHT sagen würde, weil es nicht "vornehm", sondern prätentiös ist. Er wird auch immer die dritte Person "if one is not..." der zweiten "if you are not..." vorziehen.
