To me, there are many types of batons, and they aren't all weapons:

So I wouldn't go with baton. I think you'll be misunderstood. If you mean a big blunt thing that you bash people with, it's a club.
I can only speak for RPGs, but anyway:
In German RPGs, "hiebwaffen" refer to swords or similar edged weapons that are swung (slashed) as opposed to thrust in order to cut an opponent. In English they call them "slashing weapons".
Clubs are in the "wuchtwaffen" group (and a baton is a club), which are "bludgeoning" weapons as opposed to edged weapons. Then there are weapons which are thrust (stichwaffen), including daggers and rapiers. These edged weapons are intended to pierce an opponent rather than cut them.
