That are the first two verses of the song "I am the highway" by Audioslave. Do you know a German translation for the first verse? Thank you for your help.

bereft means deprived, robbed, or spoilt. (From to bereave - old past particple or past simple). I'm not quite sure how the first line is actually meant : bereft of me" would actually make it mean " ich wurde den Perlen und Schweinen beraubt" - but that doesn't seem to make sense.

    Hast Du mehr Kontext?

And based on the evidence, losing the politics doesn't hurt the music: as Cornell proves here time and again, he can still voraciously belt the most inane lyrical tragedies with such conviction that you'd almost think they meant something were it not for such giveaways as, "Pearls and swine bereft of me," and, "Heaven waits for those who run/ Down your winter and underneath your waves/ Where you watch and wait."

Hier die Meinung eines Kritikers, die mich davor warnt, zu versuchen über die Bedeutung dieser Zeilen weiter nachzudenken.

By now, I think that the verse "Pearls and swine bereft of me" has got something to do with the idiom "to cast pearls before swine" (=Perlen vor die Säue werfen). This would make sense, because it fits to the message of the song "I am the highway". Nevertheless, I thank you very much for your help.
