"Das Runde" ist schwierig knackig zu übersetzen - "the round thing" hört sich bescheuert an. Ein Ball ist "a sphere"...but the sphere belongs on the box (on TV) hört sich aber auch seltsam an...

only one thing about soccer remains certain: you put the round thing in the square thing--in this case a television set.
'round thing' is fine, but the phrase itself (das runde ins eckige) is not used in english. it's a little awkward, but as long as you set up the sentence so that it makes sense you'll be fine.

you're supposed to get the round thing into the square thing

tgif, den deutschen Spruch finde ich absolut genial. Glückwunsch. Im Englischen muss man es vielleicht noch ein bisschen erklären, so wie es schwänzer gemacht hat.

Ich würde mich bei #3,4 bedienen! Squared geht mE eher in Richtung Mathematik.
