Quelllüftung wird auch Verdrängungslüftung genannt.

Quelllüftung ist nicht mit displacement ventilation zu uebersetzen!

Bei der Quelllueftung entsteht ein Kaltluftsee der an der jeweiligen Waermequelle selbststaendig aufsteigt.
Bei der Verdraengungslueftung wird aus vielen kleinen Oeffnungen Luft mit geringer Geschwindigkeit, jedoch mit einem hohem Gesamtvolumen ausgeblasen. Quelllueftung unterscheidet sich in fast allen relevanten Eigenschaften von der von der Verdraengungslueftung.

"Verdrängungsströmung" seems to be referred to as "displacement flow" in most cases.

Dr. Fitzner from the Herman-Rietschel Institute at Berlin Technical University claimed in his courses to have formed the term "Quelllüftung" because people used to confuse the sorts of displacement flow in laboratories or high quality office space with the well-like ventilation (Quelllüftung).

I am still not convinced. My text distinguishes between several types, incl. Verdrängungsströmung, Mischströmung and Schichtströmung.

After discussing all three in their dedicated chapters, it then starts a new section (still under Schichtströmung) and says:

Schichtströmung aus Schichtluftdurchlässen im Arbeitsbereich ist häufig auch Quelllüftung genannt. Die Zuluft verteilt sich aufgrund der Untertemperatur zunächst in Bodennähe.

I cannot, therefore, call Quelllüftung "displacement ventilation".

If anyone is interested: based on advice on another forum, I may use low-level displacement ventilation (as against high-level for Verdrängungsströmung).

Convection ventilation has also been suggested.
