    Hello,
I've posted this question before but I still need help (it's urgent):

I am currently translating the website of an "Institut für Germanistik, Vergleichende Literatur- und Kulturwissenschaft" and I'm having some trouble translating the name.
"Germanistik" at this university covers synchronic and diachronic German linguistics and German literature, as well as Scandinavian studies (and formerly also Dutch).
I have a friend from Austin, TX, who told me that at her university, they call it "Germanic studies". So she suggested to translate the name as "Institute for Germanic Studies, Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies"
A friend from England suggested "German and Germanic studies" but that would make the name really long: "Institute for German and Germanic Studies, Comparative Literature and
    Cultural Studies".
And someone also suggested to translate it as "Germanistics" because it's such a German thing. I certainly can't use "German language and literature", not only because that wouldn't cover the Scand. and Dutch thing but also because it would make many sentences tautologic (like "Im Mittelpunkt des Fachs Germanistik steht das Studium der deutschen Sprache und Literatur")
What do you think? I would be grateful for any suggestion or comment on the problem. The rest of the text is in British English. Thanks in advance!

I'd go with your friend from Austin and call it "Germanic Studies." Afterall that's what German and the Scandinavian languages are.

Ich denke auch, dass "Germaic Studies" es genau trifft, ansonsten woertlich "Academy for German and comparative philology and cultural studies"

Your Texan friend probably has the best suggestion to date. I studied at a "Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages and Literatures" (in the UK), so you could use "Germanic Languages and Literatures" ("Germanic" probably covering Scandinavian and Dutch too) for "Germanistik", although I think that would make the title a bit clunky.
