    Papier zerknüllen

Es gibt dieses charakteristische Geräusch, wenn man Papier zerknüllt.

zerknüllen ist angeblich "to rumple". Liebe Muttersprachler: kann man z.B. "I rumpled the paper, befor I threw it away" sagen?

    Vielen DANK!

Actually - now this is the sencence I need proof for:

One of the best known Auditory Icons is the sound of rumpeled paper which accompanies the trashing of a file on a computer desktop.

Is it OK to write that?

One of the best known auditory icons is the sound of (a sheet/a piece of) paper being screwed up /being balled up, which/that accompanies the emptying of the recycle bin (on a computer desktop).
