    Restmüll

    [env.]
    Sources
Es handelt sich um Müll, der nicht in die gelbe Tonne/Sach gehört. "Residual" waste dürfte hier nicht der passende
    Ausdruck sein.

    Vielen Dank für Hilfe!

Just for future reference, I had to look into the same term and discovered that in the UK, 'residual waste' is in fact the technical term for waste that cannot be recycled. It's used by the authorities, but they do often provide an explanation of what it means.

#4 = falsch. Das bezieht sich ja auf den gesamten Haushaltsmüll vor der Trennung.

I don't know what goes into the yellow trash can, but here (CA) we have three: brown (for most types of trash), blue (recyclables: plastic, paper, etc.), and green (yard waste).

the yellow bin takes all types of recyclable packaging
the green (sometimes blue) bin takes paper and cardboard
the brown bin takes organic waste which can be composted (i.e. probably what you call 'yard waste')
and the grey bin takes everything else as long as it does not have to be taken to a special collection point

In Britain paper and plastic recyclables also go into the same bin (if I remember rightly it is blue).

It varies according to the local authority. Where I live, paper and cardboard go into one blue box, glass into another, metal cans and plastic into a bag, compostable waste into a green wheelie bin, and everything else into a grey wheelie bin.

In Scotland they call it recycable (sometimes seperated into plastics and paper), food and general waste. And then there is glass and garden waste.
