    "also" (engl.) am Satzanfang

    Sources
Also the man is very friendly...

    ausserdem = besides, in additon

Besides, the man is very friendly.

"also" am Satzanfang geht vielleicht auch, aber mit Komma (was sagen natives)

Doch, geht, kein Problem. Meist aber mit Komma.

Je nachdem, was Du genau damit sagen willst, wären
"In addition, the man is very friendly",
"The man is very friendly(,) too" oder
"The man is also very friendly"
    besser klingende Alternativen

I would have a hard time starting a sentence with "Also" comma or no comma :-)))

I don't think there is a problem starting the sentence with "also". But you have to bear in mind that "also" at the beginning of a sentence is extremely emphatic and may not always be appropriate.

SuggestionThat man is also very friendly.

Kommt drauf an was du davor schreibst.

Somit: These people are very friendly. That man is also very friendly/That man as well.

Die Betonung auf der Mann hast du durch das that anstelle von the.

You can start the sentence with also (+ comma) depending on the context, and emphasis - as indicated by SteveG
---sort of in the sense of: dazu ist er auch noch freundlich.
Normally though, you would say: the man is also friendly. The man is friendly too.
    Er ist auch freundlich.

At the beginning of the sentence, it can also be replaced by:
    In addition
    Furthermore
    Moreover
    etc
