@ cam: Not quite what a refine CofE vicar would say!

"or forever hold his peace" may well be heard in films but is not what a CofE priest, refined or otherwise, says. If following the Book of Common Prayer (1662) he says to the congregation at the publication of the Banns of Marriage (on three sundays before the Solemnisation of Matrimony)"If any of you know cause, or just impediment, why these two persons should not be joined together in holy Matrimony, ye are to declare it". If following Common Worship (the more recent alternative prayer book) he says to the congregation at the Marriage Service, "First, I am required to ask anyone present who knows any reason why these persons may not lawfully marry, to declare it now." But I suppose a translator has to translate and not correct.
