    Mir geht es hier besonders um die "Mittlerrolle", ich habe das Wort leider auch noch nicht so im Deutschen gehört...

    Der vollständige Satz lautet wie folgt:
    "Indem die alleinige Mittlerrolle Christi betont und die Vermittlung der Gnade auf Predigt und Sakrament konzentriert wird, kommt es zu einer grundsätzlichen Ablehnung der Wallfahrt."

    evtl., since he "mediates" between the believers and God. :-)

    By stressing the role of Christ as sole mediator and concentrating on grace [only] as mediated by sermon and sacrament, X basically rejects [the concept of]pilgrimage.

    Another option. The other suggestions aren't wrong, but I would avoid the possessive with the apostrophe in as formal a context as this, and in general, clunky abstract nouns like 'mediatorship' are worse style in English, not better.

    Danke, für eure Hilfe.
    Ich denke beide Varianten, sowohl die von hm als auch die von Dude, sind anwendbar.

    Doch erschließen sich mir beim Lesen hms Vorschlag neue Probleme, da sich auch mit Kontext schlecht feststellen lässt, wer mit X gemeint ist... na, vielleicht fällt mir morgen früh in etwas ausgeruhterem Zustand was besseres ein.
