Ich würde sagen, das "outdoor" solltest du weglassen, weil es ja auch Funktionswäsche gibt, die dafür sorgt, dass man in einer geheizten Turnhalle nicht so schwitzt...

What is "wicking action"? (Don't give me the LEO entry "Dochtwirkung", I've seen it - but what does it mean? It's certainly not a term a lay-person would understand.)

Mary, it means that gear like that is supposed to carry sweat away from the skin on the surface of the garment, where it then can vaporize, leaving you nice and dry even when doing a marathon at 45° centigrade ;-)

    You wish ...

Wicking action is transporting moisture to the surface so that it can evaporate. It's a technical term often used in the context of special-purpose fibres, etc.

Well... you live and learn. Thanks for the explanation.
I suppose a candlewick bedspread would also fail to fall into this "wicking" category then...

Yes, especially when you light the wick!

‚Base layer‘ or ‚baselayer‘ seems to be the word of choice now for these kinds of garments, wicking, insulating or otherwise.
