Absolutely - I've never taken or seen a "vegetative anamnesis", a "vegetative medical history" or even a "history of the autonomic nervous system" in an English medical history! Although the structures of German history-taking and UK history-taking are slightly different, this section covers questions on basic bodily functions to discover any undeclared symptoms. The English equivalent is a "(brief) review of systems".

(There are also several threads in the archives about not using the word "anamnesis" - definitely prefer "history" where appropriate.)

My problem is that in this Austrian hospital report, the VA (sic) section - I hope at least I've construed the abbreviation correctly and it IS vegetative Anamnese and not something else entirely - they include alcohol/drugs/smoking. Don't ask me why.

BTW - I don't even remember asking here about vegetative Anamnese, although I did ask yesterday in another forum; so thanks for the link, Marianne. Perhaps I need to make an appointment for a referral to the memory clinic.

I have never ever translated Anamnese as anamnesis (or seen the latter, although in any case I translate hospital reports into - not from - English); but I have seen others do it. Ditto for vegetativ/vegetative.

As I said in #3, the structure of the German history and the English history are different - so the boxes don't overlap completely.
Allergies are usually asked about separately, and questions alcohol/drugs/smoking usually come under "social history" in English BUT they often appear under "vegetative Anamnese" in German - that's the way it is.
The other things you find under VA are appetite, weight loss, sleep, SOB, cough, micturition etc., which you ask about to find out whether there are any symptoms the patient hasn't thought to mention - and this is the "review of systems" in English.
The thing is, you need to make it understandable for the English reader.
