    sweety or sweetie?

    Sources
    Hi,

    I've been learning english like all my life now :), but i just realized that I don't even know the difference between "sweety" and "sweetie".. There is no entry in LEO for "sweety", but almost all the other dictionaries have it..
    Anybody have an idea, which one might be the correct spelling? or any difference in meanings?

    Babylon:
    sweety --> honey, cutie (slang - affectionate name)
    sweetie --> lover; sweetheart

    I don't think there is any difference, I assume it's a matter of personal taste. Unless one of them is the correct spelling for the BE "candy" and the other for the affectionate nickname...

    I found myself pondering the same question just the other day. I think, although I'm not sure, that sweety is the correct spelling in BE for "candy" (German: Bobnon, Gutsel etc.) and that sweetie is sweetheart, honey, cutie etc.

    Sweetie

    Sweety isn't in my English dictionaries and sweetie is either a term of endearment or another word for sweet.

    As has been said before, sweety is a bit too like sweaty anyway!
