You joined a football team.

You did not become a part of the football camp; you did become part of the team.

Yeah right... Soccer is American English, football is British English. Since football is pretty British you should use "football".

@ 5: Die Aussage "Fußball in english is soccer" kann so nicht stehen bleiben. Beachte die Unterschiede AE/BE und den Gebrauch in anderen englischsprachigen Ländern, wie er bei Wikipedia ausführlich erklärt ist.

On a summer camp would mean that you were physically on top of the camp. In a summer camp would mean that you were inside the camp.

In Nordengland hört man 'soccer' auch. Der Unterschied ist eher, dass man in England 'football' nie als 'American football' verstehen würde.

Also ich kenn keinen englischen Klub der sich Soccer Club nennt... Auch nicht im Norden.
In Irland spricht man auch von "soccer" wenn man Fußball meint. Mit football ist da eher "Gaelic Football" gemeint.
