    There's nothing incorrect about "My daughter rode the Ferris wheel today and loved it," though of course it's possible to vary the wording.

    @Dana: You would use "was riding" to emphasize that something else happened at the same time: My daughter was riding the Ferris wheel when it started to rain. She got soaked.
