The hymn is not generally known as a Christmas hymn in English-speaking countries. There are many translations in collections that include the German text, but as far as I'm aware, no one translation is very familiar to many people, unless maybe one of them is from a Lutheran or Catholic hymnal.

Many American Protestants are most likely to recognize the tune ('Sicilian Mariners') as a general hymn sung at the end of worship:

Lord, dismiss us with thy blessing,
fill our hearts with joy and peace.

I don't find it at all in either of my British hymnals, though it could have some other tune name I'm not aware of.

It doesn't seem to exist as an English hymn or carol.

It is traditionally sung at the end of the Christmas service and is a joyful song with a rousing tune in a happy key.
