    Translation correct?

Dem artigen Kinde - For the good child

    Source Language Term

    Dem artigen Kinde

    Correct?

    For the good child

    Comment
What preposition is used when translating "dem" in the context without a preposition? It's a title, so there isn't any further context. Is "for" correct to the original meaning?

    -edit-

I tried to post a pic of a tea cup I saw on ebay with "Dem artigen Kinde" written on it.
    Maybe this will work: http://cgi.ebay.de/Antike-Kaffeetasse-UT-Spru...

    Is that the source text?

It's a little old-fashioned German, but as a title it is definitely addressing the child, so "To" is correct.
You can argue the adjective: artig literally translates to well-behaved...

Well, you read my mind, QuickAnswer. I was wondering if the phrase is dated ... and also about the adjective. THANKS

Does anyone know why it would be printed on a tea cup? (Granted, dated.)

As you are drinking it, are you supposed to be getting the message: I, as a well-behaved child, deserve this cup of tea?

The teacup itself isn't my source, I'm actually translating a children's book of my grandfather's, and this is the title, so it is dated like the cup is. As for the adjective, it does translate directly as "well-behaved", but I think in a children's book's title, "good" will get the same meaning across.

    Thanks everyone!
