Josi, der englische 'Satz', den du kopiert hast, war nur ein Teilsatz.

Vielleicht ist der Satzbau leichter zu erkennen, wenn ich zwei Kommas setze.

depending on context (surprise, surprise!), -- je nach Zusammenhang (welch eine Überraschung!)
"angesichts" / "in the face of" -- "angesichts" / "in the face of"
can mean "trotz", "obwohl", "despite", etc., -- kann bedeuten: "trotz", "obwohl", "despite" usw.
I'd say -- würde ich sagen.


Der Teilsatz zwischen den Kommas, nämlich "depending on context", ist also ein Einschub und nicht das Hauptverb.
