    German: 'Ich will/möchte dich in meinem Team [haben]'
    English: 'I want you for my team' vs. 'I want you in my team'?

    I think both is kind of correct, but what is the (subtle) difference?
    When should I use the one or other?

    I want you in my team is perfectly OK in BE (though "on" is increasingly heard here too).
    I want you for my team is also fine, though I would be more likely to use "in".

    Context/ examples
    In BE you will probably be more likely to hear "in my team", rather than "on my team".
    IMHO your other suggestion "for my team" does not really work.

    In the US, I would most definitely go with *on*, but it seems like in the UK they'd prefer *in*.

    While in most cases I (AE) would go for "on," I could also see that "for" could be used in specific circumstances, such as recruiting someone for a company.

    Silly German keyboard: it capitalizes left and right and it puts a red line under just about every word.

    Correction:

    Re #15: you don't have to be the owner to use the possessive: players certainly consider whatever team they're playing on "their" team, and so do the thousands of fans supporting "their" team.

    Then again, since I could not even afford to buy a seat at Levi's Stadium, I was obviously joking about owning the franchise. :-)

    On a serious note: "I want you for my team" does not seem very convincing to me, but, who knows, maybe in certain areas...
