    'we were being on holiday' ist falsch und muss 'we were on holiday' heißen

    Und je nach Kontext kann "They were staying in a big hotel" oder "They stayed in a big hotel" richtig sein.

    For AE, I'd say "... at a big hotel."

    Edit: of course, it would also have to be "on vacation" in AE.
