This time I disagree with Nancy's approbation of "onto the market". This sounds wrong to me, but Google doesn't agree, showing 48.000 hits (they all look wrong to me).

By comparison, "into" gets 200.000 hits, not that that's necessarily the best way to decide this.

Sounds like you can use either one, but just wanted to let you know that there's not universal approval of both.

"Auf den Markt bringen" halte ich je nach Kontext meist für zu salopp.

Meiner Ansicht nach ist die übliche Ausdrucksweise "auf dem Markt einführen" (siehe Beispiel). Man beachte dabei die Verwendung des Dativ. "in den Markt einführen" geht aber auch.

Ich finde "onto" ziemlich unlogisch, man kein m.E. nichts auf etwas (Akkusativ) einführen, nur in etwas. Also "introduce into the market" ("in den Markt einführen"), denkbar auch "introduce on the market" ("auf dem Markt einführen"), aber nicht "introduce onto the market" ("auf den Markt einführen").

Peter, ich denke Du soltest bei Google das Verb "introduce" in den Suchbegriff einbeziehen. Eine Suche nach <"introduce into" market> ergibt nämlich knapp 10.000 Hits, <"introduce onto" market> hingegen erbärmliche 80, und die fast alle aus nicht-englischsprachigen Ländern.

If I'm not mistaken, you forgot to quote the phrase, thus allowing subsets of the terms to be included, like "into" all by itself. Not fair!

But maybe I've made a mistake, too, and anyway interpreting the results is tricky.

It used to be into the market, but today onto the market goes as well.

My first reaction would be to support 'into'. However, having read the comments so far, maybe the type of market has an influence, e.g. stock market or real estate. Companies are listed on the stock market, new companies coming onto the (stock) market, etc.

Inger, the obviously frequent use of "introduce onto the market" does not make it correct. I'd keep on saying that you can't introduce something onto something else.

I think the point is that "onto" does not work with "introduce" as this verb requires "into" as a preposition. But "on" or "onto" can well work in other contexts....
