The action may not be happening exactly now, but it is happening just before and just after now, and it is not permanent or habitual.

"am cooking" is correct in this context

The previous suggestion of saying . . ."currently (these days) I am cooking nearly every day is fine" - it implies this will not last. "I cook nearly every day . ." is also correct but suggests this may continue indefinitely

I would go for 'I cook',I don't truly understand 'around now' except in the sense of about to happen - the train should be arriving about now.

Nobody mentioned it so far: Jenni wrote "actually" in her initial question. She might have meant it, but it's also possible that she confused it with the German "aktuell"
