    Klassensprecher

    Correct?

    class captain

    If my memory serves me right, my English teacher once told me to translate "Klassensprecher" (elected by classmates) as "class captain" - a term that none of my dictionaries lists, though. Rather, what I found was "form representative", "class representative" or "class spokesman". Would someone please tell me if all these terms (incl. class captain) can be used and if there is a difference in meaning / usage (BE/AE)?

    My old school (in Britain) used to call it 'form captain' if my memory serves me right, but it would depend on each individual school as to what they call it, just as job titles can differ between different companies for what is the same job; all the terms mentioned are OK.

    Also: the class/form captain/representative/spokesperson whatever in a British school isn't anywhere near as important as the class president in the Helmi's link (which relates to U.S. schools). I'm struggling to remember who our form captain was and what they actually did in fact...

    In the lower grades the word "class" generally means all the students who share the same classroom.

    The classroom representative is the student that represents each classroom (of 20-35 students).

    In the upper grades, the word class refers to all students of the same grade level. The "class representatives" are the "President," the "vice-president," the "secretary" and the "treasurer."

    Examples:

    Mary was the classroom representative from Mrs. Simmons third-grade class.

    Joe was senior class president.
