    stayed/stood

    Correct?

    stand

    Comment
    Als Übersetzung für stand (Vergangenheitsform von stehen) bietet leo nur stood an.
    Ich habe aber auch schon oft native speakers stayed sagen hören.
    Ist stood die veraltete Version von stayed?

    stand - stood - stood
    stehen - stand - gestanden

    BZW:

    stay - stayed - stayed
    bleiben - blieb - geblieben

    "stand" und "stay" sind zwei verschiedene Wörter, "stayed" hat also nichts mit "stand" zu tun!

    "stayed" = ppl. of stay
    "stood" = ppl. of stand

    I think I can say with some conviction that "stayed" is NOT the past participle of "stood".
    In welchem Zusammenhang sollen die "native speakers" das denn verwendet haben?

    I second Doris.
    "Stayed" is one of those awful recurring mistakes I came across when I used to teach English. One wonders where it ever came from.

    I have never heard a native speaker confuse "stayed" and "stood".

    Stimme den vorhergehenden Ausführungen uneingeschränkt zu -
    habe allerdings den "umgekehrten" Fall in der (amerikanischen?) Umgangssprache auch schon gehört:
    "stood in bed" anstatt "stayed in bed".
    Was sagen native speakers zur "Geläufigkeit" dieser Wendung??

    "Stood in bed" ??????

    Never heard this in all my years as a native speaker. If it's from an American source, then it could also come from a 'non-native' speaker.

    Ich kann mir einen tongue-in-cheek Kommentar kaum verkneifen. Aber wir wollen ja immer schön sachlich bleiben und so kann ich euch eine Url bieten.
    Wenn jemand weiß, wer den Satz "I shoulda stood in bed" berühmt gemacht hat (war's etwa G.W. Bush*?) -- fill us in, please!

    *only j/k it was Sam Goldwyn, whoever that was!

    Doris: Sam Goldwyn, old-style Hollywood studio boss in the 1920's / '30's. Tough, cigar in his mouth. Probably Yiddish was his parents' native language (since I think he came to Hollywood via New York) but I'm speculating a bit here.
