"entjungfern" ist to pop someone's cherry

cherry picking is fine, but if you want an alternative, you can also use skimming the cream.

The verb is "to cherry-pick" and despite the similarity to the expression obligatory? noted, there is no confusion, nor even any snickering on this point. Thus absolutely no reason to avoid it; 'cherry-pick' is the obvious choice here.

    > 'to pick a cherry' kann aber auch die umgangssprachliche Nebenbedeutung 'entjungfern' haben,

Almost, but no. It's to 'pop her cherry', not to pick it.

    > if you want an alternative, you can also use skimming the cream

There is some overlap in certain case, but they do have different meanings. To skim the cream is to take only the best of something. Cherry-picking means to be selective, to choose something here, something there, something from way over yonder; the impression is of someone putting together a highly selective set in order to benefit your point of view.
