I'd say; digging is a different action and requires a tool (shovel or spade, e.g.). Pulling you can do with your bare hands, just like rupfen/reißen.

Since the OP is, in fact, very specific - rupfen/ausreißen, - "just weeding" isn't enough, IMO, especially since it could cover both "with" and "without" the use of tools. Neither rupfen nor ausreißen requires tools.
