Carly, It's fun, isn't it, I got it from noli ;-)

But as you pointed out, "nature protection" and "nature conservation" are somehow different.

I've already added it to my favorites :-) - Wish I could remember the difference between the two, but it was only explained to me once, and because I had translated "conservation" rather than protection.

    What a fun link! Thanks!

So "nature conservation" would win over "nature conservancy", and "nature protection" would win over "nature conservation".

I realize the terms are slightly different (conservation = Bewahrung, protection = Schutz), but I guess that difference is so slight it doesn't really matter. I was just looking for the most common way to say it in AE.

    How about a context?
"Er ist Mitglied in einem Naturschutzverein."
"He is a member of an organization for nature protection"?
    Or would you say:
"He is a member of an organization for the protection/conservation of nature"?

Personally, I'd say: He's a member of a nature conservation organization - or, He's a member of XX

Here are the actual names of three North American NGO's (taken from E.O. White's The Future of Life:

    Conservation International
    Wildlife Conservation Society
    The Nature Conservancy

I think I would say a "nature conservation society". Or, yes, Carly's "organization".

O.k., thanks! I thought we Germans were world champions in lining up nouns...
(Well, we wouldn't have left any blanks between them!) ;-)

Hillard7 - Whenever possitble, I just try to avoid the "of the of the of the trap" :-)

Is that considered to be better English?
I thought "of the" was correct in many cases (as opposed to lining up nouns like in German)?
