    What does Aufschaltung mean here???

I've been on the forum and I can't seem to find out whether it means

    1. Turning off HDTV or
    2. Launching HDTV for them

    I hope someone can help.

ARD is paying cable companies to feed the ARD-HDTV signal into their cable TV networks.
It is ARD who is paying and the cable providers who demand these payments.

I'm sorry, but "feeding in" TV just sounds awful. Is there not another word here?

@ 2: The word is "the feed", and "feeding a signal to ..." is a common expression in this context. This is the best I can come up with, anyway.

add-on, perhaps? the more I think about it, HDTV add-on seems to be correct here. I do agree, though, "feed" doesn't fit here.

This comes back to some general translation problems I've had with "einspeisen" - "feeding in" or "feeding" channels onto a TV network simply isn't good, commonly-used English.

I have tended to use "bringing in/bringing onto the network" myself. I'm not sure what native speakers would think of this as a translation for "einspeisen."

Everything I read about "Aufschaltung" seems to point to either an installation or some other kind of "newness" or "addition":
