two possibilities:

1/ if the complaint has already been mentioned, and the cable too, then I'd write:
"the cable in question"
otherwise:
2/ "the cable being complained about ... "

könnte man hier auch sagen: the faulty cables?
Ich habe "das reklamierte Gerät muß binnen 2 Wochen an den Hersteller gesendet werden" - the faulty device?
Irgendwie finde ich "the device being complained about" nicht sooo geglückt, und da in meinem Text kurz vorher noch von einem Ersatzgerät die Rede ist, kann ich schlecht "the device in question" nehmen.

Faulty is not good (i.e. faulty), because the part might be okay by itself, but just wrong for the application. It's suffices that the part is rejected.

I was going to say "rightfully rejected".
