Als ich meinen Wäscheständer bei Argos (UK) gekauft habe, wurde er im Katalog als "clothes airer" bezeichnet.

The translation 'clothes horse' may work in British English, but it is definitely wrong for American English. I am American and I've never heard the term used to refer to a Wäscheständer. I'm fanatical about my laundry, so trust me, I would have. I have heard 'clothes horse' used figuratively to refer to a person who wears very stylish clothes and spends a lot of money on clothes. I heard this usage from someone who probably picked it up in England.

I've also heard 'laundry rack' in American English, but never 'clothes airer' - that is also British only.
