"present" is something that is at hand. You can also use current if it is in the sense of "aktuell".

In your example, the word you're looking for could also be "relevant". Anyway, this remains unclear since there is not enough context.

I would presume that mato means whether to use "the task at hand" or "on hand", as "to hand" would strike me as rather strange...

BTW Leo defines both "at hand" and "on hand" as "vorliegend" - and I've seen (and probably used :-)) both as well. Recommendations, anyone?

Ich werte die Anfrage als Grammatikfrage. "task to hand" wäre nicht korrekt.

@mato: Man übersetzt nicht "vorliegend" mit einem englischen Ausdruck, sondern man übersetzt immer eine ganze deutsche Aussage, in der u.U. "vorliegend" vorkommt.
Solange uns kein ganzer deutscher Beispielsatz vorliegt, stehen die Chancen 50:50, dass "at hand" der richtige Ausdruck für "vorliegend" ist. Umgekehrt ist nicht gesagt, dass "vorliegend" die beste Übersetzung deiner englischen Beispielsätze mit "at hand" ist.
