"Especially" is better. But in particular also fits. Use either.

mir wurde auf der Fachakademie mal gesagt, man sollte "especially" am Satzanfang vermeiden.

Und wo soll das Wort im Satz stehen?

Thats why I said "In particular" would be better. And it stays where it is in the sentence.

But then I am only Muttersprachig Englisch, and a teacher of the language at University level, so what would I know?

Then make an entry in your personal details von Spreuth. Just out of curiosity why then did you enter for Engliah "only" sehr gut (nahezu perfekt)

Because that is the highest it goes. The only addition I could make was the "Muttersprache".

I will take another look and see, but....

Thats why I said "In particular" would be better (#6), but in #2 you write: "Especially" is better.

"The American companies in particular are involved in the region"

würde ich sagen. Möglich ist auch

"Especially the American companies are involved in the region"

    Aye. And your point is?

As the joining form only allows you to place you knowledge of the language at "sehr gut (nahezu perfekt)" at the HIGHEST, and then add a tick for "muttersprachig" that is what I did.

However do not confuse "Muttersprachig" NECCESSARILY with a good grasp of the language. A lot of Germans are Muttersprachig Deutsch yet "read" the B.Z or Bild.
